MY LITTLE NIECE Niki arrived in DC for a visit on this day 12 years ago with my sister. For the next two weeks, we took them around DC to shop and sightsee.
Niki was a good child. She tagged along and hardly made much fuss and smiled for the camera all the time (especially when sung a particular Barney song “Look through the window and what do you see…”).
Looking back at some of the photos, it must have been quite a horrific experience for a child of not even two yet, considering the places we took her and the things she saw.
Where leaves were RED and a giant hand emerged from the ground. (Poor kid, the trip probably killed her trust for Barney who sings that “Green is the colour of trees and lots of things that grow…”
“I see dead people… a bronze president and stainless steel Korean war veterans!”
“More “dead people” – white and black ones; at least this girl’s human!”
“I certainly didn’t fly more than 20 hours from home just to feed birds and squirrels!”
“They tempted me with a huge Reflecting Pool, yet I wasn’t even allowed to swim in it!”
“Time to file an official complaint… I demand to see those lawmakers on the Hill!”
